How to AVOID BEING SCAMMED BY A TAX PREPARER?

The last decade tax scam has tremendously grown beyond the IRS demand. Individuals are so excited to get some of their money back at the beginning of the year and not realizing the red flags.

Before filing your taxes with anyone that says "I can do your taxes" or "I can get you up to $8,000" do your research or Uncle Sam will be knocking on your door.

Choose a tax preparer wisely.

  • HUGE!!! Ask your tax preparer for their IRS Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN). You can search the IRS database to make sure they are a legitimate tax preparer - Nationwide!

  • Don't use a ghost preparer.

  • Don't fall victim to tax preparers' promises of large refunds.

  • NEVER sign a blank tax return or a return that is not being submitted immediately.

  • Make sure you receive your refund - double check the account numbers are accurate.
